Top Teachers Nominations are OPEN!
Each day in Jackson County, outstanding educators spark curiosity, guide meaningful growth, and create lasting change in the lives of their students. Jackson Magazine’s Top Teachers Program was created to recognize these inspiring leaders—and your nomination helps make that possible.
Educators will be honored as Top Teachers, and one will receive the distinguished title of Teacher of the Year. This comes after a careful, committee-led review and observation process. They will be featured in the May 2027 issue of Jackson Magazine.
Nomination Criteria
To be eligible for consideration, the teacher must:
Be currently employed as a full-time K–12 classroom teacher in a Jackson County, MI school.
Have completed a minimum of five years of classroom teaching prior to the 2026–2027 school year under either a Standard Teaching or ACA License.
To ensure recognition and support are extended to as many educators as possible, nominees must not have previously been named Jackson Magazine Teacher of the Year and must not have received a Top Teachers classroom grant within the past three years.
Not sure whether a teacher meets these requirements? Nominate them anyway—eligibility will be verified as part of the process.
Nominations are confidential. Teachers are not informed of the name(s) of those who submit nominations.

Honoring the Lives Lost on 9/11
Napoleon Community Schools Superintendent Mr. Dillon attended the Tunnel to Towers event at Cascade Falls in Jackson, where community members gathered for a Reading of the Names to honor and remember the lives lost during the September 11, 2001 attacks.
This meaningful event ensures that each victim is remembered and never forgotten. We are grateful to all those who continue to honor their lives, legacies, and the sacrifices made on that day.

Please join us in congratulating our incredible School Resource Officer, Officer Tom Freeman of the Napoleon Township Police Department, on successfully graduating from the Michigan State Police TEAM School Liaison Program, alongside 25 other officers from across Michigan!
The TEAM program is a school-based, law-related curriculum designed for students in grades K–12 and taught by specially trained law enforcement officers. The program brings together educators, students, and law enforcement to help young people make safe, informed decisions and protect themselves from crime.
As part of the intensive 40-hour training, officers receive instruction in student and juvenile psychology, classroom management, and public speaking. The curriculum covers important topics such as personal safety, how to call 911, the law and you, and dating violence, while also addressing today’s evolving school safety concerns, including:
• School safety and security
• Bullying and harassment
• Cybercrime and social media
• Illicit drugs and vaping
• Facility safety assessments
We are incredibly proud to have Officer Freeman serving our students and community! His commitment to building positive relationships with students and helping keep our schools safe is truly appreciated.
