Napoleon High School is thrilled to congratulate and recognize Thomas Hays for the honor of being named not only a Semifinalist back in September, but now a FINALIST for the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Thomas is among academically talented high school seniors who have earned the opportunity to continue to compete for some 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will soon be offered.

High school juniors entered this year’s National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists which represented LESS THAN ONE PERCENT of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

To earn the title of Finalist, Thomas completed a detailed scholarship application, in which he provided information about his academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated his leadership abilities, and the honors and awards he has received.

An outstanding academic record throughout high school is required, as well as being endorsed and recommended by a Napoleon staff member, writing an essay, and earning SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test, were also prerequisites to being considered for the Finalist Award.  Approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.

Merit Scholar designees are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies, and we are so proud of what all of Thomas has already accomplished, and can not wait to witness the amazing things he will continue to go on to do.

Congratulations Thomas, from your Pirate family!
