20-21 SPORTS PHYSICALS UPDATE

Any student-athlete (6th-12th grade) who will be participating in a MHSAA sport during the 20-21 school year has two options for physicals.
1) If you did NOT have an updated physical on file for the 19-20 school year, you MUST get a physical
2) If you had an updated physical on file for the 19-20 school year, you may fill out a health questionnaire, which will meet the requirements for participation for the 20-21 school year
**If you choose to get a new physical for the 20-21 school year and not complete the health questionnaire, that will be accepted**
**The school can require any or all students to get a physical to participate**

**DUAL SPORT ATHLETES**

If you are interested in being a Dual Sport athlete next Fall, do not wait until the end of the summer. All dual sport contracts need to be turned in before the first official day of practice in August. Before you are allowed to dual sport, we need to check grades, and talk to your coaches. All dual sport athletes must be approved by the athletic director. If you have any questions or concerns, contact Mr. Johns.

Make it a great day!

**ATHLETES**

As of today, we can start doing outdoor workouts with up to 100 people. The MHSAA has not shared information regarding this change, and their update on 5/29 was much more restrictive than the update from the Governor this afternoon. I am expecting to hear from the MHSAA soon.

I have been in contact with our coaches on a regular basis, and you should expect to hear from them soon regarding off season workouts. When we are able, we need to start getting stronger, getting faster, and getting better at everything we do. Even if it's outside, let's make the best of it.

The weight room and gym have to remain closed, and our hands are tied at this point with indoor facilities. We will open them as soon as we can!

Expect a health screening prior to your workout once they begin. If you are not feeling well, or you have a fever, please stay home.

NCS Updated Dual Sports Policy Approved Monday, October 21st, 2019

Napoleon Community Schools seeks to provide quality opportunities for its students in all areas including extra-curricular. It is our belief that some students have talents and abilities in which they have a desire to contribute to more than one team in a particular athletic season and both of these teams can benefit. In support of this position the NCS Board of Education has approved dual sports at Napoleon High School effective immediately. Being a dual sport athlete doesn’t mean that students will practice and play twice as much as the typical student athlete, what it does mean is that they will split time between sports based on a primary sport, and a secondary sport. A contract which explains the details and guidelines of being a dual sport athlete is available in the HS office. Before students can dual sport, this contract needs to be signed by the parents, each head coach, and also get final approval from the NCS Athletic Director, Mr. Tom Johns. The parties involved in the contract agree that dual sport participation is in the best educational and athletic interest of the student-athlete. We would encourage student athletes, and parents to contact Mr. Johns at (517) 905-5789 or tom.johns@napoleonschools.org with any questions they might have in regards to this information.
