Athletes and Parents:

As summer programs begin and continue the next few months, please reach out to your coaches if you have questions about schedules and expectations. Some programs will be High School only, some may include Middle School. Each coach with a summer program met with student-athletes, and had a sign up prior to school letting out. If your athlete did not attend and get a summer schedule, they may still participate.

By rule summer participation cannot be part of team selection, but each summer is an opportunity to get better, get stronger, and build relationships with your teammates/coaches. Go on vacation, enjoy your family, and use summer athletics as an opportunity to improve.

If you are going to miss summer activities, it is always a good idea to communicate to your coach. Here are a few things you should know as we transition to summer:

** The summer "dead period" will be July 3rd - July 9th, there will be no contact between athletes and coaches.

** Make sure you have an updated physical before the start of Fall sports, if you are a Fall athlete.

** High School Fall sports will officially begin on Monday August 8th

** We will communicate the start of Middle School Fall sports as we get closer to August

** We will have an athlete/parent meeting for athletes in all sports (grades 9-12) the first week of August. We will go over our Athletic Handbook, expectations of student athletes, eligibility, and answer any questions you may have about Napoleon Athletics. We will set a date and communicate that several weeks in advance.

**After the athlete/parent meeting, for anyone that is interested we will discuss NCAA eligibility, recruiting, what it takes to be a college athlete, and how we will help students with that process.

Have a great summer!

NCS Updated Dual Sports Policy Approved Monday, October 21st, 2019

Napoleon Community Schools seeks to provide quality opportunities for its students in all areas including extra-curricular. It is our belief that some students have talents and abilities in which they have a desire to contribute to more than one team in a particular athletic season and both of these teams can benefit. In support of this position the NCS Board of Education has approved dual sports at Napoleon High School effective immediately. Being a dual sport athlete doesn’t mean that students will practice and play twice as much as the typical student athlete, what it does mean is that they will split time between sports based on a primary sport, and a secondary sport. A contract which explains the details and guidelines of being a dual sport athlete is available in the HS office. Before students can dual sport, this contract needs to be signed by the parents, each head coach, and also get final approval from the NCS Athletic Director, Mr. Tom Johns. The parties involved in the contract agree that dual sport participation is in the best educational and athletic interest of the student-athlete. We would encourage student athletes, and parents to contact Mr. Johns at (517) 905-5789 or tom.johns@napoleonschools.org with any questions they might have in regards to this information.
