April 30, 2020

Hello Pirate Families,

As we come to the end of April I wanted to take a moment to update everyone. You are all aware that Governor Whitmer extended the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” directive through May 15, 2020. This update included some changes that relaxed some things but gave us little insight as to specifics about when campus will re-open or what our future will look in regards to planning for events, etc. Our shared desire for specific details is not unique to Napoleon Community Schools. Our students, our staff and our families are facing these unknown circumstances with many others.

In this ever changing environment details and fixed timelines are just not feasible. In particular I’d like to address our Senior Class of 2020, both Ackerson Lake High School and Napoleon High School students/ families. What I can tell you is that we WILL celebrate you Class of 2020. We WILL host a ceremony of some sort in celebration of these Pirates, many of you that have been with our district for 13 years. We are thinking of you and your family during this time. We grieve the loss of the special moments and academic career ending in this way with you. We intend to do the very best that we can to acknowledge your hard work, in whatever way we can. So I ask that you give us just a bit more of your patience in the coming days and weeks as we plan for various scenarios and wait on guidance from our Governor. That you understand we may not be able to answer all of your questions as quickly as we would like but we will keep the entire community informed as the situation evolves. When decisions can be made a commencement ceremony(s) for current graduating students will take place at a date yet to be determined BUT our community’s health and well-being must be at the forefront of that planning. It may not be perfect but it WILL be memorable and done with heart.

Our teachers from all buildings are working with students on our Continuing Education Plan. They will maintain this process through the remainder of the school year. It isn’t perfect but they are working hard to maintain relationships and provide support for our students and their families. Food Service Staff continues to provide meals through the NCS Community Food Program, their hard work and dedication to the community is commendable. The Napoleon Food Pantry is open on Wednesday from 3-5 pm as usual for those who are in need. Please remember to maintain social/ physical distancing guidance when picking up from our food program or pantry.

Pirate families we will get through this. We look forward to this crisis passing. To our community and the world becoming a more stable place where Pirates can return to our buildings, playgrounds and families can gather at our Athletic Complex.

Until then I wish you all good health & enjoy the warmer weather we hope is headed our way!

GO PIRATES,

James E. Graham

Superintendent

Napoleon Community Schools recognizes the importance of staying informed. We created this temporary web area to provide important information and to help our families & community stay healthy. We are in regular contact with local officials to monitor the Coronavirus situation. We will continue to take direction from the Governor’s Office, the Michigan Department of Education, and the local health department and take careful consideration of all information provided as the situation develops.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this stressful time.
