Letter from NCS Superintendent Jim Graham April 16th, 2020

Dear Napoleon Community Schools Families,

The Michigan Department of Education, in conjunction with educational leaders from around the state, have provided an outline for local districts to create a Continuity of Learning Plan that is functional and specific to the students within their local school districts.  Administration, Teaching Staff, Union Representation, and our School Board have all provided input and insight into our Plan which meet the requirements set forth by this outline. The Continuity of Learning Plan must be built with three things in mind; they must be student centered, we must provide access to all students, and we will manage and monitor the learning.

Points of Emphasis:

  • We will implement our plan by April 21, 2020
  • We will be making weekly communication with students and families
  • We will offer learning opportunities for all students whether they have online access, or do not have online access
  • We will provide feedback on learning and wellness
  • Courses will not impact students GPA; we will manage, monitor, and document all course work
  • We will continue to pay district employees
  • We will continue to provide meals to individuals (ages 0-18)
  • We will provide as much support as we can for our students and families

The remainder of the school year will be unique for all of us.  Remote learning will offer new challenges, but hopefully it will be an opportunity for enrichment and provide all of us with opportunities to learn.  There will be an emphasis on communication about content, wellness, and relationships. Please use your teachers as a resource, and communicate difficulties you may be having, and share success you experience.  We need to embrace this challenge as a community. At Napoleon Community Schools we care about our students and our families, and we will do everything we can to help get through the adversity we have been given.

Go Pirates!

James E. Graham, Superintendent
