The TRAC Transportation and Civil Engineering (TRAC) Program, sponsored by MDOT  hosts the Design and Build a Bridge Challenge annually. This competition is a way of introducing student to the field of engineering, teaching secondary students how to apply concepts of math and science to common engineering issues that occur in transportation systems. To qualify for competition, students research structures and various bridge designs.

Students then apply their research and create original bridge designs using the CAD software program, balsa wood and kite string supplied by MDOT. Several years ago Mr. Adam Draa, NHS Teacher/ Advisor attended the training for this competition.  Last May, two NHS teams of students were selected to compete in this challenge.

We are proud to announce that this year four NHS teams and one NMS team have been accepted to compete in the State Bridge Building competition on April 16th! They will present their design process, create their bridges and defend their decisions to a panel of judges. It will be a great chance for our students to explore their interests & we look forward to seeing their creations!

Way to go Pirates & Mr. Draa!
