Welcome! My name is Lisa Monk. I am excited about teaching third grade this year.

I began teaching in 1993. I have experience in the elementary, middle school and high school. I am certified to teach Kindergarten through twelfth grade in special education. Additionally I am certified to teach all subjects through sixth grade. I have an English endorsement and passed the secondary Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC), which allows me to teach language arts (reading, writing, poetry, drama) classes through eighth grade to all students. I also obtained a Masters in Curriculum for grades K-12 which has been great assistance as I align my lessons and expectations to the Common Core and changing curriculum requirements we face today.

Additional experience in education include teaching at Baker College to instruct new teachers in how to reach the needs of exceptional students in the classroom. I believe all students are exceptional and all students can learn. Exceptional students include students who struggle, along with students who excel beyond normal expectations. It is my goal to meet all of these unique learning needs in my classroom. I hope to challenge each individual student and assist in developing a lifelong love and appreciation of learning.

On a personal note, I love my family. I am happily married with four children. I am aware that parents are the greatest teachers to their children. As a parent myself I am also aware that I am trusted to teach your most precious asset, your child. I look forward to working as a team with parents to provide the best learning environment possible. I hope you will always feel comfortable approaching me with any questions and concerns as we accept the challenges together that this year will bring. It’s going to be a great year!!!
